| The Finnish submarine Vesikko can be considered a prototype of the German IIA class. She was built at the Crichton-Vulcan shipyard in Turku, Finland under a German order and launched in 1933. The Finnish government reserved the right to purchase the boat and did so in January 1936. Vesikko was the only Finnish submarine to survive the post-war peace agreement forbidding Finland to own submarines. The boat was converted into a military museum in 1959 and can be found at the island of Suomenlinna, Finland.
